About Maripat

I started my career climbing a corporate ladder.

Back then, I was a buyer for big retail companies, responsible for millions of dollars of merchandise in a lot of stores. I was good at my job, but it was an uncomfortable fit for me.

Over the years, I couldn’t escape the truth that what came easy to me wasn’t the purchasing… it was connecting and caring about the vendors, my colleagues, sales associates, and managers.

I really listened to the people around me, and perpetually tried to understand where they were coming from… and support them in ways that had nothing to do with sales.  These interactions were far easier and fulfilling than choosing the next best seller in a New York showroom.

Looking back, I see now that I was also disconnected from my own body. I wasn’t particularly aware. I didn’t relish the sensation of long, deep breaths. I certainly didn’t do yoga. All I did was work. And back then, when I thought about being healthy – total wellness wasn’t something I thought about at the time – it just meant losing weight.

Gradually, I came to accept that maximizing my strengths weren’t going to get me any higher on the corporate ladder. And my dissatisfaction with where I was stirred me to start taking a look at what I was actually climbing.

My ladder was up against the wrong tree.

Not only that, it wasn’t the right ladder!

Everything I used to measure my success was external to me. It came from someplace outside myself. Not only did I want to move my ladder, deep down I also craved a whole new ladder entirely… one that led to places of greater fulfillment and joy.

So I began experimenting. I enrolled in a graduate psychology program at the University of Pittsburgh. It was one of the first steps I took towards taking responsibility for my own life. I remember slipping away from work to get to class, actually using out-of-the-way hallways and escalators so my boss wouldn’t see me leaving before six or seven p.m.

But what really nudged me to explore the other possibilities for my life was the birth of my daughter, which created a giant pause. During my maternity leave, I had the chance to think about what my next steps were. And I now that had a tiny life I was responsible for… it really pushed me to make choices that reflected who I really was and what I truly believed was possible.

During that time, I accepted that I had a passion – and a gift – for helping others become the leaders of their own bodies and lives.

And I found out that as I headed in this direction, I truly was creating my own ladder within myself. The kind of ladder that would lead me to become the leader of my own life, body, and experiences.

So as it turns out, the ladder isn’t outside us after all. It’s within us. And it’s been there all along. What a gift! And a truly amazing promise that life holds out to each and every one of us. Including you.

I completed my training as a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) from the Coaches Training Institute in California in 2006. That same year, I certified as a yoga teacher at the 200-hour level from Feel Your Best™ Yoga.

And now, I am honored to work with clients all over the country – and a few overseas – who are ready to bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be.  And I bring a collection of tools and resources to the journey. Yoga. Coaching. Mind-Body work. Retreats. Teleseminars. I like to call these approaches my “coat of many colors” – because of their vivid variety and ability to bring life into full color!

So wherever you are, and whatever you are facing right now, it is my wish that you consider it an invitation to grow and open to the possibilities for your life. And it’s my great honor and joy to help you find and climb your own ladder, reconnect with your body, and become the leader of your own precious life.
